VIZIANAGARAM: With computers playing key role in every field of engineering design, analysis and manufacturing, the Department of Mechanical Engineering, M.V.G.R. College of Engineering here, is organising faculty development programme on ‘Integration of computer-based methodologies in mechanical engineering systems’ (ICMMES-09) from May 25 to June 6.

The All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), which is sponsoring the programme has released Rs. 7 lakhs for the event, according to the college Principal K.V.L. Raju.

Objective

Addressing a press conference on Saturday, Dr. Raju said that the objective of the programme was to sensitise and bring awareness among faculty members in various engineering colleges on the advanced computer methodologies.

Stating that the role of computers had become part of mechanical engineering and in other courses, Dr. Raju said that experts in field of manufacturing, R & D and teaching institutions were invited to participate and bring forth the state-of-the-art advances in computer applications in mechanical engineering systems.

Dr. U. R. K. Rao, Dean R & D, Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi, who was present, said that any significant research requires careful application of computers and IITs had been bringing in latest methodologies in thermal engineering, design engineering and manufacturing.

The programme coordinator and head of Mechanical Engineering Department R. Ramesh said 50 members and 13 resource persons from various engineering colleges and also from IITs would attend the programme.

T. Prabhakar Rao, Executive Director (Works), Visakhapatam Steel Plant would be the chief guest.
