PR will provide security to women: Pawan Kalyan

KARIMNAGAR: Yuva Rajyam president and film star Pawan Kalyan on Thursday urged upon the youth to shun eve-teasing and respect the womenfolk for the wellbeing of the society.

Launching his third day’s yatra by addressing a massive youth convention in Karimnagar town, he said that the country which respects the women would definitely progress on all respects. Referring to the acid attack episode on Swapnika in Warangal district, he said that the women have no freedom in the State.

Quoting Mahatma Gandhi, who said that the country would secure Independence only when women walk freely in midnight, he said that presently the women were unable to walk freely in the broad daylight. “The Praja Rajyam party after attaining power will provide security to the womenfolk to at least walk freely in the daylight,” he noted. He said that the ACB authorities were catching only small officials neglecting the corrupt politicians, who were resorting to extortions and making huge wealth after attaining power. He alleged that the Congress symbol was empty hand and it would not give anything to the people.

TIRUPATI: Indrasena Reddy, the lead character of the film “Indra” that shot megastar Chiranjeevi to fame and further into the political arena, reappeared on the Kuppam soil after a gap of eight years, much to the amusement of the public.

Film buffs know that the crucial scenes in the film “Indra”, including the climax, were picturised in Kuppam, but not many are aware that Mr Chiranjeevi opened up, for the first time on his entry into politics, in this town, during an interview while shooting for the film in 2001.

He recalled that he had said that time would decide his future course of action and that no force could stop his entry into politics if it was destined. During his road show on Thursday, Mr Chiranjeevi reminisced the day when he kissed the soil on his return to Rayalaseema in the movie and said it was an “unforgettable moment” for him.

As Kuppam has a sizeable chunk of Tamil and Kannada-speaking population, given its proximity to the Tamil Nadu and Karnataka border, Mr.Chiranjeevi greeted the public with “Vanakkam” in Tamil and “Namaskaragalu” in Kannada.

Actor calls upon the youth, fans to end corruption and question politicians

HIGURUMAMIDI (KARIMNAGAR DT): Yuva Rajyam president and film star Pawan Kalyan has gone all out to woo the youth, women and the aged by interacting with them during his road shows in Karimnagar district on Wednesday.

Dull note

He launched his second day’s yatra from the Alugunur cross roads on the outskirts of Karimnagar town on a dull note. However, it gained momentum when it reached Nusthullapur village on the Rajiv rahadhari of Thimmapur mandal.

All along his route, he was enthused by large turn out of youth and women. Right from Mulkanoor village of Chigurumamidi mandal to Husnabad town, he was accorded a rousing reception by scores of young people and the Praja Rajyam party leaders.

At all places, he was greeted by the youth and women hurling flowers on him and with the slogans of “star- star, Power star”. In Chigurumamidi mandal headquarters, he was welcomed by the Nava Telangana Party (NTP) activists also.

He also danced to rhythmic traditional beats of Telangana at Chigurumamidi and captivated the gathering amid cheers.

Real stars

Reacting to the fans’ slogans, he said that the youth gave me the power star title by watching my movies. But the real power stars are the youth living in the villages, he noted amid cheers.

He appealed to the youth (power stars) to chase away the corrupt politicians and grill the elected representatives for failing to fulfill the election promises by forming the village-level youth organizations. Referring to the aged persons as his grand mothers and fathers, he stressed the need for respecting the aged persons.

‘I am a farmer’

He also attracted the women by stating that Praja Rajyam party president Chiranjeevi had formed the party to see that there were no tears in the eyes of the sisters and mothers.

Interacting with the farmers, he said that he would also become a farmer and do cultivation on his own if he had not joined the cinema industry. He said that he was still doing farming in his eight acres of land.

He said that he would again visit the villages in the district to celebrate the victory of Praja Rajyam in the coming elections. PR district convenor Velichala Rajender Rao and others were also present.

Escape

The Yuva Rajyam president had narrowly escaped electric shock in Husnabad town. When he was coming near a rice mill after lunch on his vehicle by waving to the crowd, he accidentally came into contact with live wires, but escaped unhurt.

Later, he continued his yatra from Husnabad to Huzurabad and Jammikunta towns.

‘Time has come to teach political parties a lesson’

Women complain about unfulfilled promises

HYDERABAD: Praja Rajyam president K. Chiranjeevi on Tuesday regretted that several programmes initiated by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi continued to remain on paper and promised that his party would give the fairer sex the recognition and opportunity they deserved.

Referring to increasing instances of violence against women, he said, “only when you are not afraid and hit back will men refrain from such acts.”

In an interactive session, Mr. Chiranjeevi patiently heard them out and responded to their queries. A group of women from Kukkunur mandal (Khammam) said they were agitating seeking the inclusion in the resettlement and rehabilitation package for the Polavaram displaced. Another groupfrom Warangal district said that though the government had announced a scheme where the first girl child in a farmer’s family would be given a sum of Rs. 1 lakh, they were yet to see it in reality.

Couple of the present general entertainment channels too are expected to acquire their news arms by February-end. A lot of shifting of manpower is in the process as the D-day for most of them is approaching and this is said to be happening at all leve ls including news anchors, reporters, technicians to support personnel.

Some big names presently deployed with both existing and upcoming channels are expected to make their intentions clear and shift their operation bases. For some, a home coming of sorts is also said to be in the air.

From acquisition of staff to equipping studios and technical support, most are on a quiet job and if all plans fructify, the coming days are to erupt with a high option of news and current affairs on local channels.

This naturally has the existing ones seeking more dynamic plans, while the new entrants have their struggle to catch the viewer’s attention.

Pawan is also building up his muscles in order to look like a tough police officer. SJ Suryah is the director and work on the film will commence shortly. Aishwarya rai worried about dates

She is at the most promising stage in her professional and personal life, but Aishwarya Rai is one worried woman currently. If reports are to be believed, Ash has to choose between two very good (to say the least) projects with the most sought after film makers in India. Ash has dates to accept only one film and she has to choose between Maniratnam and Shankar, both of whom had given important roles to this former Ms Universe during her initial stages in the film world. Who can forget Ash in her grey sweater, sitting on the edge of the railing near the Kodai suicide point, flirting with Mohanlal in Iruvar? One could not but smile when the beauty swayed in a half-saree for Shankar's Jeans. While Shankar was the man who gave her the title of being the world's eighth wonder in his Adhisayam song, it was Maniratnam who gave her an idea of screen presence and acting. Ash''s movie with Mani, where she will be paired with Abhishek (their romance bloomed in Guru) and Vikram (in Tamil) was a commitment that came much before Shankar's Robot with superstar Rajinikanth. Both the movies are in the pre-production stage and the shooting for both is slated to begin this September.Aishwarya, who has said that she is looking forward to working with her husband all over again, has also said she was dying to work with Rajinikanth. Also, this dilemma takes on a different angle, with the astronomical fee she is supposed to have been offered for Robot. If Ash accepts this offer, she will be completely occupied by Robot, as it is Shankar's dream project and demands that kind of time from its actors. In fact, inside sources say Ash's contract with Shankar speaks of her putting motherhood on hold for this film, as it involves Ash losing weight and looking her best. Rumors are rife that Aishwarya may just lose Maniratnam's films (both the Hindi and Tamil ones) to Deepika Padukone. When Aishwarya faced a similar date problem in Hindi for the role of Jhansi Ki Rani in a movie, the offer went straight to Deepika, who, of course accepted it (andhrastudio)eagerly. So is Ash going to call the shots and ask Mani and Shankar to sort out their shoot dates so as to be a good part of both the films or is she going to sit plum on just one of the two offers and refuse the other? Watch this space for more.

Maheshbabu’s film to start rolling in June

The forthcoming Maheshbabu starrer, to be directed by Trivikram Srinivas, is likely to go to sets in June. Maheshbabu, who rewrote the history of the 75-year-old Telugu cinema by registering record collections in ‘Pokiri’, failed to match the expectations with his films like ‘Sainikudu’ and ‘Atithi’. He now kept high hopes on Trivikram Srinivas, whose latest release ‘Jalsa’ was creating ripples in the Telugu film industry.

The Maheshbabu-Trivikram combo is likely to be produced by Singanamala Ramesh. The film is most likely to role from June this year and the producer is making efforts to release the film as a Sankranthi gift in 2009. The producer is trying to grab the dates of Ileana for the film, but the heroine is yet to sign the dotted line. It is worth mentioning here that the combination of Maheshbabu and Ileana was proved a hit with ‘Pokiri’.

Genelia is aamir khan's girl

She is Aamir Khan’s new blue eyed girl who has impressed the superstar with her performance in his forthcoming home production Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. She will be seen opposite Imran Khan, who happens to be Aamir’s nephew! Once upon a time she was also linked to Ritesh Deshmukh! Renuka Vyavahare spoke to ‘Masti’ fame Genelia D’Souza to know about her journey to stardom... Genelia D Souza is highly talked about these days! (smiles) I am glad! My films are responsible for this, I am sure. Mere Baap Pehle Aap with Akshaye Khanna, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na with Imran Khan and an untitled Anees Bazmi film with Sharman Joshi... all of my forthcoming films are interesting. In Mere Baap Pehle Aap I play Akshaye’s love interest and the role is quite interesting as I essay the role of girl who is vivacious, extremist and frank... quite like the real me. You were appreciated in Masti but soon after its success, instead of sticking around you chose to take up Southern films! It wasn’t a conscious effort and cinema is cinema. No matter in what language you deliver your dialogues... I got good Tamil and Telugu films down south so I tried my hand at it. So now that you are hands are full with Bollywood offers, will you go back to doing South films? Right now I can’t say anything. It depends on the kind of offers I get. Lot is talked about your forthcoming venture with Aamir Khan. It’s a pleasure working with him. Even his nephew Imran has got his acting genes! They have completely different personalities though. Its Imran’s first film but he is so confident, well versed since he comes from a film family and is comfortable in front of the camera unlike other newcomers. Is something brewing between you and Ritesh? No, I’ve always maintained that he is a good friend. The press wrote what they wanted to but that hasn’t affected our friendship besides I am single!

PR will not sit in Opposition: Chiranjeevi

PR will not sit in Opposition: Chiranjeevi ACROBATIC FAN: A youngster precariously hangs on to a barbed wire fencing to catch a glimpse of Chiranjeevi at the Madhurapudi airport in Rajahmundry on Saturday.

Madhurapudi Airport (Rajahmundry): Praja Rajyam president K. Chiranjeevi has declared that his party will not sit in the Opposition benches after the Assembly elections. “The people will not allow that. We, sitting in Opposition means, insulting the people,” Mr. Chiranjeevi answered a question while speaking to media persons at the entrance of airport.

En route to Rajam in Vizianagaram district on Saturday, Mr. Chiranjeevi’s helicopter took a break here for refuelling. He also had lunch at the airport.

Answering another question, he said that the party did not want to join the grand alliance.

He said that the people want Praja Rajyam to fight alone and capture power on its own. However, the alliance with BSP is at national level and they know there is no base for BSP in the State.

The Praja Rajyam leader did not give a straight reply on whether he will join hands with BJP. He explained that, at the beginning, his party leader Mitra as a Leftist, tried to have a tie-up with CPM, but somehow that failed. “We are still ready to join hands with like-minded parties.”

Replying on continuing with welfare schemes introduced by the Congress government, the PR president said he would continue with all the welfare schemes, but not corruption in those schemes. When he was asked about funding to continue with the schemes and announcing fresh sops during electioneering, he shot back, “Did anyone think about funding when free power was announced?”

Chiranjeevi announces several sops to farmers

Reaching out: PRP president Chiranjeevi addressing rythu sadassu at Rajam in Srikakulam district on Saturday.

RAJAM: Praja Rajyam party founder and mega star Chiranjeevi on Saturday announced several sops for farmers.

Addressing a farmers’ convention here, he promised free power to them, assured 10 hours of power supply-five hours in the morning and five hours during night, a comprehensive crop insurance scheme, abolition of water cess, implementation of effective irrigation management system and a crisis commission to deal with any disaster.

Chiranjeevi also promised a horticulture research station at Sompeta, free power supply to salt farmers at Naupada and reservation of seats to farmers’ children in higher education.

He said he would sanction rehabilitation package to displaced farmers of Vamsadhara and Madduvalasa irrigation projects.

The PRP founder repeated the promises earlier made – like the 25 kg rice to all, provisions package, extending 50 per cent subsidy to domestic consumers in bill payments besides mentioning smaller issues like attending to transformer repairs.

Criticising the Rajasekhara Reddy government for making tall promises which were not implemented, and only 14 lakh acres were brought under cultivation in the four-and-a-half year rule, he said. Also, Dr. Reddy went against the advice of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi with regard to allotment of fertile land for special economic zones. On top of this, the Government failed to supply quality seeds and thousands of ryots committed suicides, including in Dr. Reddy’s constituency of Pulivendula, he stated.

“If the farmers went on strike on the lines of industrial workers and other employees, millions will starve in the country,” he pointed out.

About 50,000 people gathered to listen to the mega star and utter chaos was witnessed at the venue of GMR College grounds. Police could not control party workers who broke the security cardon. They even entered the press gallery which led to the media persons vacating the place.

PRP leaders Kala Venkata Rao, Tammineni Sitaram, Gorle Haribabu and other local leaders were present.

Chiranjeevi will stay back tonight at Rajam and proceed to Visakhapatnam on Sunday.
