‘PR no different from TDP, Congress’

‘PR no different from TDP, Congress’

HYDERABAD: The huge jamboree-like public meeting organised by Praja Rajyam at Rajahmundry on Tuesday at an enormous cost came in for sharp criticism from Lok Satta Party.

The Rajahmundry meeting proved beyond doubt that movie star Chiranjeevi’s six-month party was emulating Telugu Desam and Congress in spending crores of rupees to ferry people with inducements for their meetings, said Lok Satta Party president Jayaprakash Narayan here on Wednesday.

Though the PR borrowed phrases like ‘change’ ‘silent revolution’, ‘social justice’ popularised by Lok Satta for over 12 years, they turned hollow as the fledgling party too subscribed to crass political culture practised by the Congress and TDP, he said in a media conference.

“The PR is as guilty as the other two parties in running the party like a private limited company and politics as a family enterprise. The reports that PR was willing to give party tickets only to those who could spend Rs. 3 crore to Rs. 5 crore in an Assembly constituency makes its plank of social justice a sham,” Dr. Narayan said.

He described 2009 election as the fight between traditional parties pursuing crass political culture and the cause of hapless people represented by Lok Satta.

Novel ‘election’

Dr. Narayan announced that for the first in the history of country, the LSP candidate for Patancheru Assembly constituency would be elected by local people. As the party’s screening committee shortlisted two eligible candidates -- K. Shankara Rao and D. Satyanarayana -- an election through secret ballot would be held on March 15, in a true democratic spirit to decide the party కాండిడేట్
