ELURU: Utter confusion seemingly stalks the PRP ranks that are actively engaged in preparations for the visit of Yuva Rajyam president Pavan Kalyan on Wednesday, thanks to the perceived rat race for party ticket.
Uncertainty prevailed over the selection of venue for the rally to be addressed by Mr. Pavan Kalyan in the city till Tuesday evening, reportedly as an offshoot of internal feuds.
Initially, a youth leader and son of a leading city-based realtor, who aspires for the party ticket for the Eluru Assembly segment, reportedly influenced the party district top brass in choosing his sprawling site as the meeting venue near Palagudem on the city outskirts.
A wide publicity was given by the party leadership with an appeal to the people to attend the rally at the Palagudem site till Tuesday. However, the venue was changed dramatically in the last minute following the intervention of a prominent leader from the Backward Classes and another leader in a bid to scuttle the prospects of the youth leader and turn the tide in their favour. The venue was changed to Indoor Stadium near the Collectorate just a day before the programme.
Officials blamedDistrict party president K.P.N. Satyaprasad, however, attributed the change of venue to the alleged pressures from the ruling party on the administration against according permission for organising the programme either at the Indoor Stadium or ASR Stadium. The PRP functionaries paid the prescribed fee and applied to the authorities concerned in advance seeking permission. The hostile response from the officials forced the PRP to opt for the site near Palagudem. It was changed later as the officials changed their mind in favour of the PRP’s plea in the last minute, Dr. Satyaprasad said.
Similar situation prevailed over selection of the place for the make-shift helipad for landing of Mr. Pavan Kalyan’s copter at Bhimavaram till the last minute. Although the local Agricultural Market Yard was selected for the helipad, it was not cleared by the officials due to technical reasons, forcing the PRP to choose the S.R.K.R. Engineering College grounds for the purpose.
