Case against PR ticket aspirant

HYDERABAD: The Punjagutta police on Saturday registered a criminal case against Das, who allegedly threatened that he would attack Praja Rajyam party spokesperson Mitra, having been denied party ticket from Devarakonda Assembly constituency.

Das, along with his followers, came to the flat of Mr. Mitra at Srinagar colony on Friday night and tried to barge into his flat even as the security guards prevented them. They banged on the doors shouting for Mr. Mitra and intimidated the guards that they would come in large numbers on Saturday and assault Mr. Mitra holding him responsible for denying ticket to Das. Mr. Mitra was not at home that time. Based on a complaint lodged by the guards, the police registered a case against Das and his followers and launched a hunt for them.

‘Rail engine’ to PR challenged Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Bahujana Samajwadi Party (Ambedkar-Phule) submitted a memorandum to Chief Electoral Officer I. V. Subba Rao here on Saturday contesting allotment of ‘rail engine’ symbol to the Praja Rajyam.

Nalla Surya Prakash, its president, said the EC had allotted the ‘rail engine’ as the common symbol to its candidates during the Assembly by-election in May 2008. He demanded that the symbol be allotted to his party.

Meanwhile, leaders of the 37 registered parties in the State made a beeline to the CEO seeking a common symbol for its candidates citing the Supreme Court directive.

The CEO said he would place all their pleas to the EC.

PR office ransacked

ANANTAPUR: The issue of allotment of party tickets by Praja Rajyam led to an attack on the party office here by the supporters of A. Surendrababu, an aspirant for Anantapur Urban Assembly constituency ticket. One T.J. Prakash was chosen by the party for the constituency.

A large number of supporters thronged the party office in the Gulzarpet area here in the afternoon and went on rampage immediately, even as the new district convenor of the party and former Minister H.B. Narese Gowda and Mr. T.J. Prakash tried to pacify them. They broke the chairs, damaged ceiling fans, broke window panes and damaged the office computer. They also ransacked the party’s campaign vehicle, ‘prachara ratham’, sent by the State office for electioneering completely. They also pulled down flex posters and set all the furniture on fire.
