Chiranjeevi does an NTR

Chiranjeevi does an NTR Special Correspondent

TIRUPATI: Mega star Chiranjeevi does an N.T. Rama Rao by deciding to make his electoral debut from the temple city of Tirupati.

The thespian, late NTR, who launched the Telugu Desam Party in 1983, got into the electoral ring only from Tirupati and won with a thumping majority.

The hapless Congress candidate who lost to the titan was the then Speaker, A. Eswara Reddy. It is a different matter that NTR who contested from a seat each from the three regions of the State in the 1983 election had later relinquished his Tirupati and Gudivada seats retaining only the Hindupur seat.

History seems to be repeating itself at Tirupati with Chiranjeevi also choosing the temple city for his maiden electoral battle.

Ever since he used Tirupati as his launch pad to start his Praja Rajyam in August last, it became an open secret that he would contest his first election only from Tirupati toeing the line of NTR.

NTR who had a strong sentimental attachment for Tirupati used the city as his launch pad for all electoral campaigns.

For that matter, even the TDP supremo, Chandrababu Naidu, continued the tradition after he took over the party mantle.
