Chiru may file papers on April 4 Special Correspondent

Deputy Speaker Kuthuhalamma back in fray

Chiranjeevi “trying to woo” D.K. Adikesavulu

TIRUPATI: Battlelines are drawn for the prestigious Tirupati Assembly seat with the mega star Chiranjeevi, Praja Rajyam president, himself getting into the fray. Mr. Chiranjeevi’s campaign managers indicate that he would file his nomination and kick-start his campaign on April 4.

Before that, he would offer prayers at Tirumala, as is the tradition for all star campaigners. The candidates of the other key parties who would cross swords with him are B. Karunakar Reddy, former TTD Chairman who is a close aide of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy; K. Sankar Reddy, former Municipal Chairperson and a buddy of TDP supremo N. Chandrababu Naidu and G. Bhanuprakash Reddy, State BJYM president. The ‘nomination’ phase got off to an interesting start in the district. Mr. Karunakar Reddy was the first to file the papers for the Tirupati seat. In a significant development, Anuradha, wife of Kathari Mohan who is in remand in connection with the alleged bomb attack on C.K. Babu -- former Chittoor MLA and the Congress nominee for the ensuing polls -- filed nomination on behalf of her husband. TDP is said to be toying with the idea of sending Mohan into the ring against the Congress strongman. Among other prominent nominations were that of Galla Arunakumari, Health Minister, for the Chandragiri constituency. Deputy Speaker G. Kuthuhalamma is said to have at last won her case and secured a ticket. The other nominations were G. Amarnadha Reddy (TDP) for the Palamaner segment. It is for this seat that Mr. Chiranjeevi is contemplating TTD Board Chairman D.K. Adikesavulu’s son D.K. Srinivas and strongly wooing the father and son into the party.
